About six months ago my regular snowsport forum started getting a little stale. Few riders post in the snowboard section and a few skiers are quite vocal about how they feel about snowboarders. As the colleague who originally told me about the forum passed away, I decided to look around and see if I could make some new friends or find old connections on other forums.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out what was out there. I’ve found new and old snowboard friends on a variety of forums. It’s been great establishing new friendships online and has led to meeting them in person. We’ve even gone to snowboard movies together. That’s It, That’s All.
If you find yourself in the position of wanting to explore other snowboard forums or communities, here are some I’ve found. I’m active in some more than others. Each has a different flavor or focus. Some are geared to a wide audience or can be geared to a specific age range or snowboard discipline.
Here’s a synopsis of the sites I’ve come across:
Snowboarding2 Forum
Geared mainly to the USA rider. It doesn’t get a lot of traffic.
Snowboard.com This a huge forum. They have it split into age groups, amateur, and industry areas. The forum can be unstable and it can be hard to logon. Some of the top notch snowboard instructors in the world are on this site. They are willing to share.
ABC of Snowboarding
This is mainly a USA traffic site right now. Great moderators and if you want to learn tricks, some of the top instructors in the world moderate on this site. I visit this spot frequently.
Sierrasnowboard forum
This is a site that is run by a store that supports the community. Riders here from around the globe. If you post and help members out, you earn free gear! Sweet!!!!
Snowboard Addicts
A mix of everything. Geared towards North America.
Snowboarding Forum
A nice mellow forum. Members from around the globe. It’s moderated but members respect one another and listen to others opinions. No flame wars. One of my favorites.
Rag related forums:
Snowboard Good site. Lots of knowledgeable pro’s here.
Bomber Carving Community
Like the title says, it’s all about carving. Lots of racers from around the USA and Canada. There are some top-notch carving instructors on this site.
USASA Forum
This is the forum for amateur competitors in the USA. It includes alpine and freestyle competitions.
Carvers’s Almanac
Not really a forum but if you are into carving, it’s a great resource. Not regularly updated.
Grays on Trays
This is for the older snowboarder from beginner to experienced snowboarder. People here are not really interested in the party life. They are riders from around North America looking to make connections and share experiences.
Powderroom
This is an international site for female snowboarders. It has more European traffic than North American.
Shred Betties
This is a forum for female riders of all ages. Mainly riders in the USA and Canada right now.
TGR
This is a skier and snowboarder site. All are hardcore snow enthusiasts. Don’t post immediately in this forum or you may regret it. Sit back and watch before posting. Learn the feel and flavor. If you don’t like it, move on. This is a tight community and they like it just the way it is. Expect pretty much anything in this forum. Once established in this forum, expect to have some tight friends. You’ll always have someone to ride with or help you out in life in general.
Snowboarding Blogs
Shayboarder Shay keeps in touch with everything in the snowboard community. Reviews, interviews, product reviews. If you need to know the snowboard industry pulse, find it here.
The Angry Snowboarder Product reviews and commentary.
